China to Issue 3 New Industry Standards on Pesticide Quality Management

Original Article from CIRS

3 new industry standards on pesticide quality management composed by China's Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA) were approved by experts and will be issued shortly, according to the news released from an official conference on 19 December, 2014.

The 3 industry standards, Guidance on the Determination of Physico-Chemical Properties for Pesticides, Guidelines on Method Validation of Analytical Methods for Agrochemicals and Test Guidance on the Full Components Analysis of Technical for Pesticide Registration respectively, improve the requirements of quality control for pesticide registration, thus connecting with international standards and filling the guidance gap in China.

The main proposed contents / changes are:

  • In the Guidance on the Determination of Physico-Chemical Properties for Pesticides, the existing 22 testing methods for physico-chemical properties were revised and another 16 testing methods were added, which include water solubility, relative self-ignition temperature of solid and flammability of gas etc. The new guidance covers nearly all testing items of physico-chemical properties identified by OECD, EU and US-EPA.
  • The Test Guidance on the Full Components Analysis Technical for Pesticide Registration specifies requirements on basic contents, testing methods and testing reports of full components/5- batch analysis tests.
  • The Guidelines on Method Validation of Analytical Methods for Agrochemicals specifies method validation requirements for determination of content of active ingredients, relevant impurities and etc. in technical and formulated products and defines relevant testing items and evaluation indexes that involved.

These three new industry standards will be the guides to carry out relevant tests and will undoubtedly be a challenge to labs and pesticide enterprises in China. After the new standards come into force, higher quality of chemical data for pesticide registration should be required.
