Original Article by Food Regulatory Team

On 8 July 2014, the Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China (SAC) and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China (AQSIQ) have jointly published a national standards Notice (Notice number 18 of 2014) to approve 179 national standards, including GB/T 30767-2014 Food Safety National Standard for the Coffee Beverage. GB/T 30767-2014 was drafted by China Beverage Industry Association (CBIA) and will be implemented on 1 December 2014.

GB/T 30767-2014 is a first China national standard in regards to coffee beverages. Compared to GB 10789-2007 General Standard for Beverage, GB/T 30767-2014 not only limits the caffeine content but also takes the coffee solid content as technical parameter in the first time. These two limits could generally ensure the quality of coffee beverages. Meanwhile, GB/T 30767-2014 will be very helpful to regulate the production and marketing of coffee beverages in China.
