China SAWS publishes the 2nd batch of hazardous chemicals for priority management

17 Feb 2013, The State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS) has published the 2nd batch of 14 hazardous chemicals for priority management. There are now 74 hazardous chemicals for priority management in total.

Hazardous chemicals for priority management are chosen from the Catalog of Hazardous Chemicals (2002) based on the hazard properties of the chemicals and their likelihoods to cause safety accidents.


SWAS will prioritize and strengthen inspections to companies who manufacture, store, sell or use chemicals in the list of hazardous chemicals for priority management in China. The manufacturing and storage facilities of those chemicals on the list shall be designed by companies with type-A qualifications. Companies who manufacture or store those chemicals shall be equipped with automated monitoring instruments to monitor parameters such as temperature and pressure. Manufacturers shall also prepare sound emergency response plan to deal with possible chemical accidents. Companies who use hazardous chemicals on this list to manufacture products shall obtain a safe use permit from the administrative department of work safety at city level when the quantity of usage exceeds certain threshold.
